Connect with the Pixie...

Come, visit, like, and chat with me!
We welcome you to connect with us...

Swamp Pixie Herbal has a Facebook page!

Feel free to visit my brand-new fanpage and post your herb-related queries for help and discussion, or neat articles, or anything else related to this blogs general theme of health, herbs, homesteading, and more.  See you there!

Pixie's Pocket

Currently, the Pixie's Pocket is still open, but only a few products are listed for sale.  I do not have any honey for sale, but hope to restart that venture at some point.  If you need help finding local honey in the meantime, write me with your zip code and I shall do my best to find someone in your area who can help you out!

Herbal Goods

If you are looking for herbal products (other than the few on Pixie's Pocket), I encourage you to check out a few awesome places.  Poppyswap.com is a wonderful marketplace for hand-crafted herbal wares from teas to tinctures.  If you prefer to make your own, I whole-heartedly endorse Mountain Rose Herbs!  If you want plant starts, seeds, or gardening goods, I suggest Richters.

Is The Pixie's Pocket Closed for Business?

Our new friend Sandy, Eric, and a very happy Swamp Pixie.
Not pictured: Akasha, Queen Kitty.
Well....while it might seem that way, that isn't the whole truth.

Eric and I have been blessed with full-time jobs that we enjoy, and that benefit us in more than financial security.  That blessing has left me with much less time to devote to packaging things and sending them out, and as I'm sure a few of my last customers could attest to, I was doing a less than stellar job.

My website, PixiesPocket.com, is still up and running.  I am offering divination services there, and will also likely be listing excess wildcrafted herbs from my yard and organic garden this year.

It is not likely that I will be listing the herb-infused honey anytime soon, as that is the most time-consuming and high-cost items for me to create.  I still make small batches, but not enough to stock a shop with...and when I was most busy and "successful," I found myself no longer enjoying the process.  But if I have a few spare jars of yummy to share, I will post them for sale there!

I'm happy to hear any questions, concerns, special requests, custom orders, etc.  Feel free to hit me up here via Swamp Pixie Herbal, or through the site.

Checking in...Anyone here?

I read Walt Whitman to Asheville on Banned Books Day
Howdy, beautiful readers.

I've been away from this blog, enjoying life.  The Pixie's Pocket shop is mostly empty of items, and I have been focusing my energy elsewhere.  I have found that juggling a full time job, a full time relationship, a social life, and theatrical pursuits are much easier without the obligation of a full time shop!

I do have divination services available on the site, both the junk oracle and a tarot readings.

I am not vending with the YMCA market this year, but I encourage my local Asheville readers to go take advantage of the weekly market and awesome vendors!

Well, I do have to admit that making things in the kitchen without having to document it for the blog has been nice.  Not paying as much attention to social media/promotions has also been good for my brain.

My blog here will continue to be updated as I have other things to discuss, but I can't promise regular posts. Right now, Eric and I are on a sugar and wheat-free diet...boy, do I miss my booze!  But only 8 days in, my skin is already clearer, I'm better hydrated, and my gastro-intestinal system is quite happy with my decision to try this shift.

Be well, enjoy the post-apocalyptic bliss, and keep on keeping on!

A quick update of sorts...

Joyous Equinox, Beautiful People!
I've been terribly busy all September, and now I realize that I've not updated this poor blog.  You must forgive me, I've been 'et up by celebrations, memorials, weddings, harvest, and life in general - to good end!

We've been 5 hours to Georgia and back, 8 hours to the ocean and back, into a mountain full of dragons and faeries, and yesterday was spent tending neglected home and freaked-out kitty.

Equinox hit like a hammer this year.  Boom, frost on the ground and roof and cars, reddening the stems of the poke and making the trees shiver and change hue.  Boom, my breath visible in the morning.  Boom, the house full of spiders and free of ants and flies and mosquitoes.  Boom, socks and sweatpants and hot drinks.

I'll be back soon, with some updates about PixiesPocket.com and a few other matters-of-course.

Love, and Happy Autumn to you all!

August Update

Howdy there, folks!

I'm working out a bit of revamping with this blog and with my honey shop at PixiesPocket.com.  Between that, and canning up the garden as it's coming in, I've not had time to write.

Bear with me, and until I'm back to creating content, I'm happy to share some awesomeness from other sources that you might not have seen!

Some Great Recipes

Cooking Comically:  These are excellent!  Tyler Capps creates simple but really good recipes drawn in comic form.  It's a great for getting the no-frills person in the kitchen to try their hand at making things, and he'll have a published book coming out soon.

Quinoa and Potato Curry: This is from the blog KaraPaints.  True, she does normally keep her posts to art-related topics, including a series teaching you (Yes, YOU!) how to paint with watercolors.  But even artists have to eat...so Kara made a nummy meal the other day and shared her recipe.

No More Herbalists on Etsy?

So, there are a lot of herbalists who are annoyed with Etsy due to new labeling requirements that are more stringent than the FDA requires, and are moving their wares to new venues.  If you are on that boat and want a new place to sell your products, or if you are an herbal shopper who is wondering where all the good stuff has gone, visit PoppySwap!

To that end, you will see me listing more bulk herbs and honeys on PoppySwap, and using Etsy for jewelry and divination listings.

Cold of doooooom

Howdy, everyone...I promise I'm still here and I still care.  I have been tied up with the worst little cough/cold that I've had in years!

For over a week I've had a never-ending productive cough, sneezing, depressed energy levels (not to mention patience levels) and a fuzzy brain.

None of my normal allies are much help right now, much to my confusion:
Elderberry cordial is tasty but isn't moving anything forward.
Osha tincture makes me grumpy and sleepy (meaning my body is fighting harder? Unsure...)

All I want to eat is SUSHI and hot broths and tea. Om nom nom, nori and miso and fish...

And sleep. Lots of sleeping!

*sigh*

I'll be back when I'm more coherent, lovies.

Busy as an Autumn Bee...

Things I have learned in the past few days:

  • When making bread that requires kneading for ten minutes, don't use a timer, just sing "Matty Groves" once through to obtain perfect crumb.  The rhythm of the song helps greatly with the process!

  • Spirit Horse Herbals makes a great lip balm!!  It's very moisturizing, has no flavor, and is super soft.  I was lucky enough to win a tube of "Soothe Those Lips" in a recent giveaway on their Twitter! <3
"Oregon Wild (formerly the Oregon Natural Resources Council or ONRC) has been instrumental in securing permanent legislative protection for some of Oregon’s most precious landscapes, including nearly 1.7 million acres of Wilderness, 95,000 acres of forests in Bull Run/Little Sandy watersheds (to safeguard the quality of Portland's water supply) and almost 1,800 miles of Wild and Scenic Rivers.  As a leader of the national grassroots charge for conservation of roadless areas in our national forests, Oregon Wild helped secure administrative protections for more than 58 million acres of spectacular roadless areas across the country. "
  • I'm packing up with my dear love to go to a festival in Georgia this weekend.  I'm looking forward to fires, drums, friends, and time spent with trees over my head.  Another couple of attendees and I are planning an Autumnal Herb Exchange, where we can share the fruits of our labors this year with one another.  There's at least one wonderful woman at the festival who makes the BEST handcream for tired drummer's hands that I've ever had the honor to use!
I'll be back soon to do a newsletter and update my shop!

Shine with love, Happy Equinox!

The wheel still turns

Well, it's been a bit of time, hasn't it?

The chickens are still chickening, the full time job is still going,
and the garden is yielding tomatoes like mad.

I have missed blogging, but have been enjoying life and all that it throws at you
in the long days of summer so full of potential...

I ain't gone yet.

Heh.
